FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

October 04, 2021

News Media Contact:

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) published the proposed service areas of all applications undergoing review for funding through the Broadband Infrastructure Program. Broadband service providers will have 15 days to submit information about the broadband services they offer in any of the proposed service areas.

The announcement of proposed service areas will assist NTIA in targeting federal funds appropriately to areas lacking qualifying broadband service. NTIA will consider the information submitted by service providers as a factor in its evaluation of the program’s applications.

“NTIA’s top priority in this program is to provide broadband service to as many unserved households and businesses as possible. We are committed to awarding funds to the communities that most need the support,” said Acting NTIA Administrator Evelyn Remaley. “The information shared voluntarily by broadband service providers during this process will enable NTIA to achieve our goals.”

Broadband service providers are invited to submit information about any services offered in the proposed service areas. Further information and instructions are available at our Announcement of Proposed Service Areas webpage. Any voluntary submissions of information from existing service providers must be received by October 19, 2021, and should be provided in accordance with Section VIII.B of the Broadband Infrastructure Program Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO).

More information about the Broadband Infrastructure Program can be found on the BroadbandUSA website.
