State broadband website(s):

The state of Michigan does not have an office dedicated to broadband. However, Connect Michigan, a subsidiary of Connected Nation and the Michigan Public Service Commission oversee broadband-related activities in the state.

State broadband contact(s):

Connect Michigan partnered with the Michigan Public Service Commission  to launch a “comprehensive broadband planning and technology initiative as part of the national effort to map and expand broadband.” The program gathers provider data to inform statewide broadband maps, performs statewide business and residential technology assessments and works with localities on community plans through the Michigan Collaborative Broadband Committee. The program validates broadband coverage for the state and provides guidance and technical assistance to communities, policy makers and others. In January 2018, the Michigan Consortium of Advanced Networks was formed to create a broadband roadmap for the state. The Michigan Broadband Roadmap was released in August 2018.

Funding for broadband:

The Connecting Michigan Communities (CMIC) Grant Program in the Michigan Department of Technology, Management, and Budget (DTMB) provides grant funds to projects that “demonstrate collaboration to achieve community investment and economic development goals of the area impacted” and extend broadband to unserved areas. State Broadband Plan: The Michigan Consortium of Advanced Networks was established in 2018 and is charged with developing a broadband roadmap. The Michigan Broadband Roadmap was published in August 2018.
